A school pinnie goes on over whatever the child arrived in — a PE shirt, a jumper, in February a coat. So it is sized over kit rather than to a body, and the armhole depth is the measurement that decides whether one size covers a year group or whether the side seams start tearing in week three.

That is worth stating plainly, because torn side seams get blamed on stitching and are almost always an armhole that was cut to a body chart. We quote armhole depth and chest width for what is going underneath.

Colours matter more here than anywhere, because a school field is bigger than a club pitch and a teacher is further away from it. Light against dark, checked in grayscale, and enough of each that a mixed group still splits cleanly.
